Old Writing

Recently I came across some of my old writing and boy does it bring back memories! It’s so interesting to read something you wrote awhile ago and notice how much you’ve grown, the ways you have changed. I got better at building sentences, improved my writing style, and started using more words.

My younger writer self switched between pencil and keyboard, whereas now I mostly use keyboard. Although, with as much as technology is taking over how we do everyday things I have gone back to writing a lot of things by hand. Why I started using the keyboard pretty much exclusively was the fact that you can get your ideas written down so much faster! Plus, whatever errors you make can  either be fixed for you or or underlined red for you to take a look at. Editing grammar and punctuation, being able to re-read a sentence, realize there’s a problem with it, and fix it quickly with no hassle or fuss.

I lost myself for hours, sitting there reading things that I had long ago written, old ideas that sparked new ones. I’m anxious to revive some of these ideas. Sitting here now I am semi-distracted because these story lines are playing out in my head. What I love most about writing is that you can write your own world, create your own people and creatures, shape society, knowledge, technology, or history. Getting ready to write fills me with energy, with a burn, a need to get these words out of my head and down somewhere more permanent and retrievable.

After hours of reading my old writing, I realized that as a writer I now focus too much on editing as I go. I stopped focusing on the actual writing, the content, to work on the aesthetics. Reading my old writing reminded me why I loved writing so much, why I was anxious to create that refreshing, faraway place that was an escape. Now it’s time to get back to it.

It’s easy to be Faraway; you zone out and get that glazed look in your eye. You’re in your own world. Even as distracting as a loud noise is, it doesn’t quite take you from being Faraway. Everything is slow, sounds are distant, you feel kind of float-y, you breathe like you are relaxed, distracted. To daydream, to dream, to imagine, to pretend, to be Faraway is a momentary release from reality, from troubles and pain.

To be Faraway you do not have to be stationary. You could be walking down the Street being Faraway,  at work actually working but being Faraway, be in a business meeting and participate and yet still be Faraway. Walking down the Street, passing people in the market, catching a Fleeting glance through a Window, gaining the Nerve to go to that store or restaurant you checked out online, no matter where you travel you will encounter someone who is in a Faraway state.

It’s Tricky, you see, being Faraway and yet still rooted in reality with Clarity. As I write this I am in the balance,  Faraway and yet still rooted in reality with Clarity. But multitasking is what it really is, being able to balance being Faraway and the on-goings of reality. As Colorful as reality can be, the feelings of being Faraway are just as intoxicating if not more.

Strain Review- Super Silver Haze by Cannabis Club.

I’m going to start by saying WOW! This strain is absolutely amazing. I was incredibly impressed with how high I was, as well as how I could manage the throbbing pain in  my back. I found it to have a sweet, citrus taste and was very dense. The lineage comes from crossing Skunk #1, Haze, and Northern Lights. Super Silver Haze is considered a sativa, but I think its more Hybrid than Sativa. I give a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I would definitely recommend it for Cancer patients for its nausea relieving effects as well as pain relief.

    WTF is a DAB?

The very first time I even heard the term Dab, I was confused and curious at the same time. I was in the dispensary called The Oasis in the Top Hat neighborhood of South Seattle. I had just gotten my medical marijuana authorization and was excited to try some new strains out. When I walked in, the entire place smelled absolutely delicious. After carefully checking out all the shelves, I came to a display case with the word Concentrates in huge lettering. I asked the staff, who referred to himself as a “Budtender” whats up with the concentrates? He was happy to answer my questions and to this day is still one of the most knowledgeable Budtenders I have come across.

After I asked what I’m sure was several dumb questions, the Budtender then asked if I wanted to try a sample! I gladly accepted the offer and followed him into the Dab Bar section of the store. Now at the time, I don’t think there were any laws preventing the sampling on site, but I was new and trusted my Budtender to not do me wrong. I also figured why would he risk his job over a sample? So he proceeds to use a butane torch to heat a metal nail on a special water bong for smoking wax, called a dab rig.

Now I’m intimidated! I’ve never had a dab hit before, and I’m just about to back out, when he noticed and offered to take a hit to show me how its done. Before I can say sure, he’s already done taking his toke. No biggie right! He reloads his dab tool with another smaller piece than the one he just took and says “Are you up or not?” I agree and proceed to take my very first dab!

I will say the only thing I don’t like about taking a dab is it is very strong on the burning of the throat and lungs. Besides that, it’s such a wonderful high. For me it’s like smoking several bowls of either the Truth or the 3 Kings strains. I also enjoy smoking joints and blunts, and a dab hit of a good wax hash is better than smoking several joints and blunts.
